I'm unsure what the purpose of this is if learning is the constant and time is the variable. Hours logged seems like it equates to seat time. Are you interested in logging seat time, measuring learning, or both?

That's fair. I guess I would just make it part of the class expectations and double up its purpose, by doing something like making it an exit ticket or something similar.

That means that a student would then have to open the form everytime they went to classroom. Students aren't going to do that. It's an extra few clicks. I want something that will timestamp as soon as they are active and online. Moodle used to do that.

Couldn't you also just do a Google Form and have it submit answers to a Spreadsheet with a time stamp? Sort of a quick and dirty formative assessment meets independent study log that could be formatted to resemble a reflection of their work (depending on what they're doing). Takes a little more setup, but you could make the spreadsheet it is linked to read only for students.

Not sure if that gets at your goal or not, but it might be a solution of sorts!

Hey listers...
I was just chatting with a colleague and we came up with an interesting feature for Google Classroom. We thought it would be cool if a teacher could obtain some kind of timestamp/timer to check how long a student has been "active and online." Similar to what moodle used to do. Here's why, we have some students that do independent studies or some other classes that are completely online, however we have no way to actually verify they are online when we request them to be online and active. If you all think this would be a good feature as well, could you please send that feedback through Google Classroom? Thanks.
