Audubon's first trip to our Popasquash Island Sanctuary to survey for Common Terns did not yield any terns. This could be due to their late arrival or the presence of a Snowy Owl on the island. The snowy did not keep the 250 or so ring-billed gulls from attending the 124 gull nests we counted. Boat trouble kept us from getting to Grammas and Rock islands so we are not sure it there were terns there.
