Hi Dennis, 

We use Canvas LMS for all our online courses that are offered by teachers around the state and have been extremely happy with it. They do have a free teacher account and the ability to connect via video conferencing with their integration with Big Blue Button, which also has the ability to record.

Might be an obvious question, but have you tried Google Classroom? If not, I would highly recommend taking a look. I have found it a great hub for uniting responses, grading, expectations, resources, and communications between students. Also, are you thinking adult learners or are you more leaning toward K-12?

Is anyone currently teaching a class remotely? If you are, what type of technology are you using? We are looking at youtube live and Open Broadcaster.

We will have a "live" classroom and 5 remote students in another school.
We'd like the remote students to be able to chat with the live classroom. 
We'd also like to record the session.
