We have a number of devices that are EOL per the pervious list but are still receiving updates along with the ones which aren’t EOL.

When Google drops support, are they really dropping support for old OS versions?. I assume at some point the newer OS versions can't be installed on old hardware so they drop support for that hardware?

Hey Ben,

Here at CESU at least we stick a fairly strict cycle out plan of replacing devices every 4 years. We are a 1:1 school though, which does take its toll on the devices themselves.

This is something that came up in discussion today here that may be worth looking at: https://support.google.com/chrome/a/answer/6220366?hl=en

We try to make sure all of our devices are at least capable of receiving the latest security patches from Google, and with this list, we are cycling out some devices sooner than expected due to Google dropping support for them, at least officially.

Hope that helps,

How many years are you all getting out of chromebooks.. how many years do you hope to get out of them? Do you run them in to the ground, or are they replaced before they get really bad?

I have some chromebooks that are going on 6 or 7 years, I assume battery life is shot on them. Our Chromebooks are shared devices and not 1:1

What I'm concerned about is usefulness for state testing....will the battery last long enough and at some point they may not be able to support the newer Chome OS versions.
