Surprisingly an override at GAFE supercedes the Firewall and OpenDNS restrictions we put into place. This was a big one for us. We wanted to continue to control content for individuals inside our network who are not logged into, and therefore not subject to, the Google restrictions. So we wern't sure opening up the Google permissions would have any affect. But they do. We can control content for logged in and not-logged-in users on our network, but still allow access and approval rights through GAFE.Philip,Do the settings configured in the GAFE control panel for OU and filter level somehow override the DNS configured levels for those who are logged in w/ Chrome? I'd assume no, especially if internal DNS servers are used, but what's your experience with this configuration?Ben,We also implement host redirection at the firewall level. The settings are forced at the Google level, but also for any users on the network not actively logged into Google they are redirected for any YouTube search to the moderate level.I started to look at this last week. While I'm not focused on restriction levels yet, it looks like most of this can be controlled or overridden/approved by OU level. What I'm wondering is if anyone's set this up using DNS or HTTP headers (link) and an additional filtering method, or is everyone just relying on students to be logged in to YT with the google account? I'd assume on a non-chrome OS device, it's easy to work around this.I have a question about this thread. I've been doing some Youtube adjustments recently for the school. Right now I have student OU's on moderate restrictions (pending strict restriction) and teachers on no restriction. If I give a teacher sub OU permission to whitelist certain youtube videos, how do the teachers in said OU make that happen? How can I make that happen? The ability to do that would be extremely helpful. Thanks!Alex MinkoffStowe High School and Middle SchoolTechnical Specialist802-253-7229 ext. 1133WARNING: This email may contain information under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) or the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). We also assigned grades k-5 the restrictive setting, grades 6-8 the moderate setting, and set grades 9-12 to unrestricted. All adults are also unrestricted.
Any approver can remove an approved video/channel that they see, but they can't see who did the approving or removing; however, I can go to the console and see a list of all approved videos/channels and remove them if necessary. I can also see who approved the video/channel in case a conversation is necessary.
Hope that helps,
Mike

Subject: YouTube settings
Wondering how others have the YouTube service in G Suite set ? Restricted, Moderate or Unrestricted or completely turned off for students ? Mostly 6-12 are my concerns. Do you have teachers set to approve content ?
