My library does not charge either - copy, scan, fax, print. All providers and staff have 24/7 access. The library is not open to the public/patients without a referral.

Excessive use seems to occur once in a while when I am not at work but our machine's use is not in excess of other available machines within the hospital so the copy service people are not concerned. The library's only expense is paper which has remained within budget.

We do not charge at all for printing, copying, or scanning.  It is all self-serve, and is available to an staff, patient, or caregiver - really, and employee or user of the hospital.  Non employees can only use it during the normal working hours, M-F, 7 - 4.  Employees  have 24 hour access, 7 days a week.

How do folks manage printing? I'm not asking about particular hardware/software, but more generically - do you charge, charge back, require codes, etc. Or is it just free and open? And if so, how do you prevent tremendous waste and massive printing of things not related to work/education?
