The IRS has webinar that is very helpful, as well as an FAQ page(both links are below). Sections 1 and 5 are the only required portions of the new form. The other 3 sections need to be completed only if applicable. My understanding is that current employees are grandfathered but that any future changes must be made on the new form. NEMRC has given the option to enter a pre-2020 W4 or a new W4 and they have customized the page for the new form. NEMRC also released a webinar on how to handle these new changes in NEMRC. https://www.nemrc.com/support/payroll/video/2020%20W-4%20fields%20in%20NEMRC%20Payroll.mp4 IRS Webinar- https://www.irsvideos.gov/Webinars/UnderstandingThe2020FormW4AndHowToUseItToCalculateWithholding IRS FAQ- ttps://www.irs.gov/newsroom/faqs-on-the-2020-form-w-4<https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/faqs-on-the-2020-form-w-4> Travis Sabataso HR Director Town of Essex/Village of Essex Junction 81 Main Street Essex Junction, VT 05452 802-857-0113 (Phone) 802-857-0095 (fax) From: Vermont Municipal Government Discussion Network <[log in to unmask]> On Behalf Of West Fairlee Town Clerk Sent: Wednesday, February 26, 2020 1:28 PM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: Re: new 2020 W-4 form CAUTION: EXTERNAL MAIL. What happened to being able to claim Single and 0 dependants? There is no place to fill in a 0 for dependants. 1) I'm not sure how to interpret the form to answer his question, and 2) I'm not sure how I'm even supposed to enter the information into Nemrc for a new employee. His total under "Step 3 Claim Dependents " is 4500. Has anyone else figured this out yet? Thanks! Lori A.
