RE:††††† Robert (Bob) Vaughan (Director of Capital Planning and Management)

I write with the sad news that Bob Vaughan, UVMís long-time Director of Capital Planning and Management, died on February 10th after an extended battle with cancer. Bobís death may come as a surprise to some because he never complained about his illness, and he worked right up until the most recent Board of Trustees meeting on January 31st, which he attended. Such was his work ethic.

Bob came to UVM in 2000 by way of Florida, Virginia, and Brown University. He arrived just before the University began to grow its enrollment and undertake an extensive campaign to renovate and restore many buildings and undertake the construction of new ones. Bob oversaw the construction of University Heights, the Davis Center, Jeffords Building, Central Campus Residence Hall, and the STEM Center, and his portfolio of renovation projects was even more extensive.†

Bob was a consummate professional who, with his team, physically transformed the UVM campus over the past two decades to make it a better place for all aspects of University life. He helped to enhance UVM for all, and he did it very well. His quiet leadership, vast technical knowledge, and friendly and engaging manner made him invaluable to the University, and all of us who knew him well will miss him greatly. Our best wishes go out to Bobís family and friends as they deal with the loss of this good man.

There will be calling hours for those who wish to pay their respects at the Ready Funeral Home, 261 Shelburne Road in Burlington, from 2:00 Ė 4:00 PM on Saturday, February 15th, and a brief memorial service will be held immediately thereafter.
