I echo many of the thoughts.  I know that, in their efforts to maintain communication, our central office jumped on Zoom's free offer without checking with those of us in Ed Tech to see what we recommend.
I would also like to go with Google Meet, as it integrates with our current tools.  I am unsure how difficult it is to join a Google Meet call if you have a non-gmail account or a mobile device (thinking of a morning meeting for younger students who may not be able to log into their GSuite account).
I'm also wondering how to obtain parental consent at this point.  We can send forms along bus routes with food distribution, but ironically, that most likely reaches the students who don't have Internet service or devices.
I know our central office is working diligently on their long term learning plan, per Governor Scott's office, so I am waiting until our next District Tech call next week to discuss some of this.  I just have teachers (understandably) chomping at the bit to maintain contact with their students.

Is there anyone at the State that could give us answers to these questions.  I know we used to call on Peter (thank you by the way) but he is one of us now.  If we do need this consent form filled out we really need to know now as I have teachers already using it.

Or should we just move forward with the permission slips to be sure?  Unfortunately we are living in a world right now that is moving faster than all of us can keep up.

+1 to Will Hatch. Struggling to get people to embrace the readily available, easy to support tools already in place. But the short of it is, from what I can determine, a Video chat with students in their homes, is essentially, coming into that students home. And if they are not old enough to consent to that, we will require Parental\Guardian permission to do this. Regardless of the tool we use.

I'm struggling to keep people heading in the direction of using Google Meet; feel like I can support it better and I don't want multiple forms of communication causing fragmentation. It would be nice to know that Zoom does or does not work for students, because this might help steer people in a manageable direction.

I too read Terms of Service last night..looks OK as far as under 13 or COPPA kind of stuff... they do have pretty extensive Terms... you might read it yourself just to get the gist.... It seems fairly standard...

I looked at the Zoom ToS and Privacy policies when this was all getting going and was unable to find any provision specific to the 13 and under or COPPA stuff. I *think* that means that it's your standard "If your not 13 you can't use it" but I could be wrong.

I am getting mixed messages around the use of Zoom for virtual learning with students under 13.  Can those of you who have been vetting companies for privacy compliance let me know if they have been added to the "approved" list?
