In this particular case, we hadn't enabled email functionality in Gitlab, but I've set it up. You should now all be able to reply directly to issues and comments sent to you via email and they will appear in Gitlab.

Who is the point of contact for Gitlab support?  I tried replying via email to a colleague’s comment in one of our issue discussions, and what should happen, is that gitlab sees the email, parses it, and adds my response to the discussion thread.  Instead, about 4 hours later, I got the response below.  Do the email settings just need to be tweaked?  This isn’t a mission critical bug, I can log into gitlab via the web and add my response, but the response by email is a really nice feature…
