Good afternoon,

Please find the results of our most recent rate setting activity for Final FY21 Education Property Tax Rates on our website:
https://tax.vermont.gov/property/education-property-tax-rates

We provided electronic Tax Rate Notices to 10 additional municipalities this morning and now 202 of the 259 municipalities have final rates.

For those with limited connectivity at the moment, I have also included the table in the body of this email below my signature for ease of reference.


Towns not on this list have one of the following issues:

  1.  No approved school budget
  2.  Unanswered questions on their budgets still within the 30-day reconsideration period
  3.  The town belongs to 2 union districts and one is on hold
  4.  They are a reappraisal town and we have not yet received or been able to process their reappraised 411 data

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, budget votes were delayed in a number of school districts with several votes occurring in mid to late June. Final tax rate information will not be available for these districts until after the 30 day reconsideration period and final budget submission to the Agency of Education. We will continue to deliver updated tax rate information as soon as possible after reconsideration periods close.

There are also a handful of districts that have yet to achieve voter approval for their FY21 school budgets and have upcoming votes pending. If desired these towns may consider sending out an interim equalized tax rate of $1 (which would be adjusted by the local CLA) and then reissue tax bills upon passage of their local school budgets. The Department of Taxes is working diligently to process the homestead declarations that were filed on July 15 (the delayed income tax filing deadline) and we hope to be able to provide towns with updated grand list information by August 1st.
