We had a number return from summer in this  state (won’t charge, won’t start.) we were able to hard reset some but some went to HP.

Not sure if our problem is the same as your's, we have been able to just reset.  Make sure the chromebook is not plugged in, hold down power, escape and the reset key for 5-10 seconds, let buttons go and then hit the power button again.  Sometimes it will ask for the USB stick but we haven't needed it.  You can get through this by clicking control D and enter three times.

Hope this helps!

I've been getting a lot of chromebooks turned in for repairs that I can't fix.  The common problem is they won't turn on and the charging light does not light up.
I've done all the standard troubleshooting steps (testing ports, chargers etc). As a last resort for one of them, I swapped out the "main circuit board" and it fixed it.

I just got another CB returned with the additional information that it had a message on the screen the warning on "critical updates" yesterday and now it won't turn on.

Is there any chance these Chromebooks are getting bricked during an update if they run out of battery life?....I'm talking about this happening at least 4 times in the past week and now that I think about it, this happened to 2 or 3 times back in March.  All the same chromebook model and relatively new Acer C732 devices.

USB recovery doesn't fix it since there's no sign of power getting to the device.
