Hi farmers
We're getting ready to bring in our winter squash harvest and are tight on curing space. Usually we lay them out in a single layer on tables in the shade cloth covered greenhouse, but a bumper crop and some fall seedlings are incompatible. I wonder if folks have had success curing squash in pallet bins rather than single layer. Are there details that help or hurt this method? Are some varieties more compatible with this method than others? We are growing butternut, blue hubbard, red curry, delicata, Georgia candy roaster, acorn... We have 4x4 by 2 ft or 3 ft deep black plastic bins that we would be using. Thinking I would put them in the greenhouse with the top off the bin but still worried about humidity. I'm also not sure if having them stacked several layers deep will lead to bruising. Any advice on bulk curing is appreciated and I will share replies.
