JOB POSTING TITLE: Southside AHEC Librarian DESCRIPTION: University Library Services of Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) is seeking a health sciences librarian to provide services to Virginia's Southside Health Information Consortium (SHIC) which includes the counties of Amelia, Prince Edward, Charlotte, Halifax, Mecklenburg, Lunenburg, Nottoway, Brunswick, Dinwiddie, Greensville, Sussex, Prince George, and Surry. Responsibilities include reference service, mediated searching, instruction in Grateful Med/Loansome Doc, and visits to all health care facilities in the Southside AHEC to promote and provide education programs to support information service delivery. Some travel within the State of Virginia and evening and weekend work is required. QUALIFICATIONS: ALA accredited MLS required. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills required. Reliable transportation and a flexible work schedule required. The following are preferred: Three years of progressive work-related experience; strong knowledge of print and electronic medical reference sources; excellent teaching and communication skills; experience with on- line databases; initiative, creativity, flexibility and the ability to accept and manage change in a culturally diverse environment; and the ability to meet established deadlines. ENVIRONMENT: The Virginia Commonwealth University Libraries serve as a Resource Library for the Southeastern/Atlantic Regional Medical Library Services program and the Southside Virginia Area Health Education Center. The Southside Health Information Consortium was created recently to develop electronic access to information for health care professionals residing in the Southside AHEC. VCU's Tompkins-McCaw Library is supported by 288,000 print volumes and 2,981 current serial subscriptions. SALARY: Salary negotiable.
