Yes, there is a Canadian government service which collects statistics on
the nation's health. It is the Health Statistics Division of Statistics
Canada, and it does publish a great deal of printed information about
many health issues on a regular basis.

Does it publish anything about TMJ (temprormandibular joint syndrome)?
Well, the answer is: not so far as I am able to determine ...

The annual publication: _Hospital morbidity_ (latest edition covers
1991-1992) shows hospital separations for various causes and rates per
100,000 population under the categories of the ICD-9 and the Canadian
Diagnostic Short List. TMJ (ICD-9 code 524.6) is lumped in with a number
of other conditions in _Hospital morbidity_ under the group: "Disorders
of teeth and supporting structures" and the number given (separations for
1991-1992) is not going to be very useful, anyhow, since it indicates the
number of those discharged from *hospitals* in this country after being
treated for the conditions grouped by the code.

In short, I suspect that you are not going to find any data collected by
Statistics Canada on a condition such as this one. It isn't a public
health threat (not a notifiable disease) and it doesn't get its own ICD-9
code separated out in the statistical publications which exist. There is
a lot less of this sort of stats publishing here than in the US ( we have
approximately one-tenth the population of the US).

So, I searched Medline for an article likely to be useful to you and have
come up with the following:

UI - 89029691
AU - Locker D
AU - Slade G
TI - Prevalence of symptoms associated with temporomandibular disorders
      in a Canadian population.
SO - Community Dentistry & Oral Epidemiology 1988 Oct;16(5):310-3
IS - 0301-5661

I don't want to suggest that it is the only article available, but I have
not found anything more recent, nor anything older that is more apt.
