                           "Crimea 96"
 
       "Libraries and Associations in the Transient World:
         New Technologies and New Forms of Cooperation"

The Conference is held under the aegis of IFLA.
 
The aim of the "Crimea 96" Conference is to extend and strengthen
cooperation among libraries in Russia, the Ukraine and other FSU
republics with the foreign library community.
 
The two previous conferences, "Crimea 94" and "Crimea 95," took
place in Eupatory, Republic of Crimea, and manifested the growing
interest of library and information specialists in this
international forum. The Third International Conference will be
held in Foros.

Foros is a picturesque place in the very southern part of the
Crimean Peninsula, a narrow belt of subtropical park between the
Black Sea and the Crimean mountains ridge; a favourite place of
rest for many people. Foros is well-known all over the world due
to the events of 1991, the August attempt of coup d'etat. The
famous ex-President Gorbachov's "dacha", where the plotters held
him a hostage, is not far from the Conference venue - Foros Health
Resort.

 2.  Acquisition and Preservation of Library Collections.
 3.  Automation Technologies and Systems in Libraries.
 4.  On-line and CD-ROM Technologies in Libraries.
 5.  Interlending and Document Delivery Service.
 6.  Business Information and Information Management.
 7.  UNIMARC, USMARC and CDS/ISIS or other Library Software.
 8.  CDS/ISIS: Development and Implementation.
 9.  Regional Libraries: Problems and New Ideas.
10.  Dissemination and Utilization of Medical, Pharmaceutical and
     Environmental Protection Information.
11.  Subscription Problems and Agencies' Experience in Eastern Europe.
12.  Problems of Parliamentary and Governmental Libraries.
13.  Problems of Children's and Juvenile Libraries.
 
The above list is subject to changes which will be specified in
subsequent announcements.
 
             CONFERENCE LANGUAGES: ENGLISH, RUSSIAN.
 
Exhibits will be opened during the Conference to present
information products, services, automated systems, software
packages, CD-ROM products, books and journals.
 
Fees for participation in the Conference will be indicated in the
second announcement but, in general, the fees will be fixed at the
level of the "Crimea 95" Conference. ( Participants in the
"Crimea 94" and "Crimea 95" Conferences will be offered a 50%
discount.)
 
We are very interested in getting a preliminary indication of
your interest so that we may draw up the Programme and fix the
dates of the Conference.
