 Rural Nursing Seminar with Dr. Angeline Bushy, Visiting Professor.
Join us this Summer in Cooperstown, New York or via Teleconference
June 17-21, 1996
 
         This conference will be the first of it's kind ever offered to the
international nursing community.   Plan now to participate in this history
making event!   Final decisions regarding the complete curriculum,
teleconference requirements, and housing  are nearing completion.   Contact

           Attend  in Cooperstown or via distance learning from your site or
others in the United States.  Intermittent connections to international sites
are being explored including Australia.  The Decker School of Nursing at
Binghamton University in Binghamton, New York, USA will provide 3 college
credits at the graduate and undergraduate level.  All or part of the program
may be taken without credit.
        Angeline Bushy Ph.D., RN. is Professor, Bert Fish Endowed Chair, at the
University of Central Florida, School of Nursing.   She completed a
postdoctoral study in using Nursing Informatics in community health.  Her
research includes a studies on life-styles and health risks of vulnerable rural
populations, as well as an historical study on prairie folk medicine. She has
published widely, presented nationally and internationally on a variety of
topics related to rural nursing.
Course Overview
        The course is titled,  "Contemporary Issues in Rural Nursing".  Plans
are in development to "visit" local, national, and international rural sites
using our distance learning telemedicine/ teleconferencing capabilities.   All
attendees will have the opportunity to discuss rural health issues with nurses
throughout the world.  Issues confronting rural clients in acute care and
community will be presented from a national and international perspective.  The
agricultural family health issues will be covered. Nursing activities to
promote health and prevent disease in a target community and integration of
professional-community partnerships with public health interventions will be
posited.  Rural health research will be discussed.  Technological solutions to
rural health issues will be explored and tested.  Telehealth applications will
be demonstrated.  Exploration and evaluation of Internet resources for rural
health care professionals and residents will  be experienced.
        Village of  Cooperstown, New York
Cooperstown is the home of the National Baseball Hall of Fame, the world famous
Glimmerglass Opera Company, the New York State Historical Association Farmer's
Museum and the Fenimore House Folk Art Museum.  It is a beautiful rural village
located on beautiful Lake Otsego in upstate New York.  The village is named for
author, James Fenimore Cooper and was the inspirational site for his novels
including "Last of the Mohicans".  It is a wonderful site to bring your family
for a week!
 
 
Angeline Bushy Ph.D., RN. is Professor, Bert Fish Endowed Chair, at the
University of Central Florida, School of Nursing.  She is an American Nurses
Association certified Clinical Nurse Specialist in Community Health Nursing.
She was formerly Assistant Professor at the University of Utah College of
Nursing in Salt Lake City.  She holds a BSN from the University of Mary,
Bismarck, ND, an MSN in Community Health Nursing from Montana State University,
an M. Ed in Adult Education from Northern Montana College, and a Ph.D. in
Nursing Education Administration from the University of Texas. She completed a
postdoctoral study in using Nursing Informatics in community health.
        Her research has focused on the self-image of pregnant women,
life-styles and health risks of vulnerable rural populations, as well as a
historical study on prairie folk medicine.
She has published widely, presented nationally and internationally on a variety
of topics related to rural nursing, in on the editorial review board of several
professional  nursing publications, and is an officer in the Army Reserve Nurse
Corps.
