presents
"I Want to be a Cybrarian when I Grow Up"

Monday, March 11th, 5:30-6:30
Admission: $5 (includes hors d'oeuvres)

Health Sciences Library, University of Cincinnati
231 Bethesda Avenue, Cincinnati

There is a saying that in the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king. In
today's fast-paced world economy, it is the party with real-time information who
can seek coronation, and the one who can _find_ that information who will become
Prime Minister. That person not only has the skills of a conventional
librarian, but can apply those skills, as well as unbounded curiousity, to
cyberspace. Such a person might be considered a cybrarian. Mr. Richardson will
describe what constitutes an information broker (aka cybrarian), and how he came
to join their ranks.

About the Speaker:
Joe Richardson, after holding down jobs as diverse as: combat fighter pilot,
operations analyst, design engineer, and marketing director, is a cybrarian. He
made that career choice in 1994 when he opened a fee-based research and
retrieval service called Information Advantage, now Richardson Research &
Retrieval. In so doing, he became a member of a small group of information
professionals in the Cincinnati area, sometimes referred to as information
brokers.

Directions:
Take Martin Luther King Drive to Eden Ave. Turn toward UC Medical Center on
Eden, and follow Eden to the end, where you will turn right on Bethesda. Turn
right again into Medical Sciences Building (MSB) Garage, or locate street
parking. Parking for 1 1/2 hours in the garage is $1.95. Go to level three of
the garage and locate the exit. Exit garage, crossing small bridge which leads
to level E of the MSB. Turn right at corridor. Follow corridor short distance
to find Health Sciences Library on your right.
