MESSAGE BEGINS:
Concerning creating a HOME PAGE on the "Web":
  There are TWO primary considerations:
     Content&style
     Technical presentation

It is VERY easy to write HTML code, that is to write in the language
of the WEB, however there is HTML, HTML+, Netscape 2.0 Extensions to
HTML, Netscape 3.0 extensions to HTML, (all have differences, consider
them to be "dialects" of the HTML language or perhaps "accents" to the
HTML language.
REMEMBER also that your home-page VISITORS will have different machines
with differing browsers and you should ALWAYS have your screeens pre-viewed
by a Lynx (character oriented browser) and by BOTH Mosaic and Netscape
which are ofcourse graphics oriented browsers.
 STYLE is most important.
A concise home page, with very small sized graphics files, can be viewed
by a visitor IN SECONDS, a complex home page, with dozens of very large
and complex graphics files may be VISUALLY ASTOUNDING, but it will ANNOY
your visitors by taking several minutes to download! Always present
relatively short pages, always use the standard exclamation point inside
a triangle to warn of very long files, always show file size even for
very short files.

Always indicate target audience:
  ie: HBO therapy: for Patients
       HBO therapy: for Doctors
Always present graphical alternatives, many viewers still use lynx and
will only see a text alternative rather than a graphics, but YOU must
supply the text that constitutes the alternative to a graphics.

As to SOFTWARE, there are TWO types
Programs by the dozens that will WRITE IN HTML.
Programs by the dozens that will CONVERT EXISTING TEXT FILES INTO HTML.

If you have ASCII files, any conversion is simple. If you have WordPerfect
or WORD and do not want to use their ASCII option, you can get either free
of cheap conversion programs.
$200 programs such as HOTMETAL are great for career HTML writers,
but you don't need it.
Netscape home screen will direct you to over a dozen sites that
will show you the basics of HTML, URL, CGI's, FORM, etc, there are
even some sites that discuss STYLE rather than content.

Good lluck to you, if you have any specific questiions or if I can
be of further assistance feel free to dcontact me directly and I will
recommend specific software packages or freeware programs for you.
