The University of Missouri-Columbia is also looking for another
technician for our vascular laboratory. We perform a wide spectrum
of vascular studies for inpatients and outpatients. The process of
finding a technician takes a lot of hard work; there is no central
clearing house for potential applicants and employers to get
together. Using snail mail, word of mouth, and journals is really a
poor method of recruiting personnel.

I want to float a proposal to this forum. As an enlightened group of
professionals interested in vascular imaging, I think it is time for
us to create a web site for vascular technology and RVTs. I would
envision this site would serve multiple functions. The first would
be a clearinghouse / electronic bulletin board for labs and potential
applicants to get together. I would envision that there would be
some nominal fee submitted for anyone matched by the service that
would serve to support the web site. I would also like the web site
to act as an electronic bulletin board for upcoming meetings,
educational opportunities, and reference for individuals that want to
become vascular technicians or obtain their RVT. This web site could
be a stepping stone to better organize the teaching of non-invasive
vascular technology; replacing the pervasive view / "reality" that on
the job training is all that is available. Finally, such a web site
could also function to educate the general public on what a RVT does,
and the importance of non-invasive vascular testing. Comments?
