Assistant Director for Library Information Systems

The University of Florida Health Science Center Library (HSCL) is
seeking an innovative leader to serve as the Assistant Director for
Library Information Systems. The HSC Library supports six colleges
including the Colleges of Dentistry, Health Related Professions,
Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Veterinary Medicine, in addition to
the Shands Health Network of eight hospitals and over thirty
clinics.  The successful candidate will provide leadership in the
planning, development and operations of the library's information
technology services in support of lifelong learning, access to
information, research and clinical care.

As a member of the HSCL's senior management team, the head of
Information Systems directs the staff of 5.5 FTE responsible for
library systems, network services, public and education computing
facilities, desktop automation and technical support. The
technological environment includes a network for staff which delivers
Windows-based application software, internet access, modem pool and
networked fax to 50 library staff terminals. The network for the
public delivers CD-ROM databases, word processing, teaching programs,
student email, and student internet access via a 28 station
computer laboratory, 10 station classroom, 10 public work stations,
and over 5000 campus computers using Windows, Windows 95, DOS and
Macintosh operating systems.

Qualifications: ALA accredited MLS or a Master's degree in a
relevant field. Five years experience, with increasing levels of
responsibility, supervising, planning and managing computer resources
in a library or academic setting. Experience with Windows, DOS and
MAC environments; with NOVELL, UNIX, TCP/IP, and WWW servers.
Demonstrated understanding of current and developing technology and
of network information systems, preferably in an academic or health
sciences library; evidence of strong administrative, planning and
leadership skills. Experience in managing servers, software and
hardware resources; demonstrated success in project management;
ability to communicate technical information to a non-technical
audience and to work effectively in a team setting; excellent oral
and written communication skills; flexibility and the ability to
accept and manage change; strong interpersonal skills in group and
individual settings; ability to work with all levels of staff and
patrons.  Desire grant writing experience; working experience in an
academic medical center; familiarity with current trends in academic
information management.  Experience in an IAIMS environment highly
desirable.

Benefits and Salary: Salary commensurate with qualifications and
experience: $45,000 minimum.  A comprehensive benefits package which
includes 22 vacation days and 13 sick leave days annually, TIAA/CREF
or other retirement options, usual insurance benefits, no state or
local income tax.
