At the 3rd Canadian CF-IRMS conference in August 1996, it was recognized that a major limitation to adoption of a LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) for our community of light stable isotope laboratories was that standard formats for samples to be analyzed and for isotopic analyses had not been adopted by mass spectrometer vendors. In an effort to convince manufacturers to establish these data standards, in March (1997), I spent a day each with Analytical Precision, Europa Scientific, Finnigan MAT, and Micromass personnel, discussing data standards and demonstating LIMS For Light Stable Isotopes, (NT 4.0 version). Based on these discussions, LIMS for Light Stable Isotopes was revised significantly and the capability was added to generate and populate multi- sheet paper templates for automated sample preparation manifolds (and EA's) from a queue of samples to be analyzed. Devon Rowe kindly presented LIMS For Light Stable Isotopes at the 4th CF-IRMS conference last month. Copies are now available from: U.S. Geological Survey Attn: T.
