Responsibilities

Responsible for the provision of reference services for the medical center's medical/dental staff, house staff, and medical students using print and electronic reference sources; develops and maintains library home page; provides bibliographic instruction in use of electronic databases and the Web; installs Ovid Windows client; responds to questions regarding use of Ovid client server, Web, and Telnet applications; attends 'morning report' at least once per week and performs literature searches related to pertinent cases; assists in collection development.

Requirements

MLS from an ALA accredited program required.  Previous health sciences library experience and course work in the health sciences preferred.  Experience searching biomedical electronic databases and html coding required. Excellent attention to detail.  Ability to work autonomously and prioritize competing demands.  Excellent written and oral communication skills.  Responsible, dependable and flexible.

Environment

Children's is the pediatric training hospital for Northwestern University Medical School, and is part of the McGaw Medical Center/Northwestern Health Care Network.
The Library is part of the Information Management department of the medical center, and is connected to the medical center's LAN, employing Pentium PCs, running Windows 95 and MS Office 97, with a T-1 connection to the Internet, and Ovid-based electronic databases (MEDLINE, CINAHL, HealthStar, etc.), accessible throughout the medical center via WAN.  The Library currently uses EOS International's Manager Series Library automation software, residing on the hospital LAN, and plans to acquire a GUI Opac interface with imaging capabilities in the near future.

Salary and Benefits

Salary range is $30k-$35k, commensurate with experience.  Full benefits package, including medical/dental, tuition reimbursement, pension. E/O/E.
