Sorry for the late report but I had more pressing things to attend to ...
Got there late because of the snow and only got in 2.5 runs but they were
well worth the effort. The drice over App Gap was at once frightening
and beautiful, huge wind gusts and a gnarled warzone of a winter
wonderland sort of landscape..
Run #1 was down Catamount-Lynx-Lower Glade-One-Way and was nearly as good
as it gets. The backs of some bumps were still icy but nothing like
earlier in the week. It was nice to see that Lynx fared well
through the ice storm ... it and Lower Glade have not been open since the
storm and were both in fine shape. The last pitch of Lower Glade was
wonderful, soft bumps intertwined with smooth stretches of untracked...
did two runs down Fall Line (also just reopened). Fall Line was in
exceptional condition .. there was no ice except for a few bumps and the
beginning of the return traverse. Headed over under the double where I
found a sweet 8-10 inches of powder..
I've finally gotten tele skiing in powder down pat, it's wonderful.
There's much more of that floating effect and turning is really effortless
(no hopping required). The tele spreads your weight out more and allows
you to get real low so cranking long, deep, and fast turns is no
problem... ice and hard groomed is still rough however -- deciding what
skis to take to Europe is gonna be difficult...
I suppose there are worse decisions one could be forced to make ;)
