AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BURLINGTON VT
140 AM EST THU JAN 1 1998

AXIS OF RIDGE MOVES OVERHEAD AND THEN QUICKLY TO EAST OF FORECAST
AREA THIS MORNING. RETURN FLOW WILL ALLOW SOME RECOVERY OF
TEMPERATURES. WARM AIR ADVECTION VERY IMPRESSIVE. THICKNESSES GO
FROM 501 TO 528 AND H8 TEMPERATURES FROM -24 TO -8.

MID AND HIGH CLOUDS INCREASING QUICKLY ACROSS EASTERN GREAT
LAKES...ONTARIO AND QUEBEC THIS MORNING. LOW CLOUDS STILL HANGING
TOUGH ACROSS E FA AT TIME...CLEAR ELSEWHERE. AS WARM FRONT
APPROACHES...EXPECT WARM AIR ADVECTION SNOW TO BREAK OUT...MAINLY
THIS AFTERNOON. AHEAD OF THIS FEATURE CURRENTLY THERE IS SOME LIGHT
SNOW FALLING ACROSS MIDWEST.

ACROSS ST LAWRENCE VALLEY AND NORTH ADIRONDACKS THERE MAY BE SOME
LAKE ONTARIO CONTRIBUTION. DO NOT BELIEVE IT WILL BE MUCH THOUGH AS
INSTABILITY IS CONDITIONAL AND SHEAR CONTINUES TO INCREASE. MODELS
SPITTING OUT ONE TO TWO TENTHS AND THIS GOES ALONG WITH PREVIOUS
THINKING REGARDING ACCUMULATIONS...ESPECIALLY CONSIDERING FLUFF
FACTOR.

THE PROGRESSION OF WARM AIR CONTINUES TONIGHT AND ON FRIDAY AS WELL.
BUT BEYOND THE PASSAGE OF THE WARM FRONT...NO NOTABLE TRIGGERS
THROUGH THIS FORECAST PERIOD.

GRADIENT TIGHTENING UP ON BACK SIDE OF RIDGE AND WINDS STAY UP
THROUGH THIS PACKAGE.

FORECAST SUGGESTIONS...
