Coordinator of Affiliated Hospital Services

The Health Sciences Library System (HSLS) of the University of Pittsburgh
invites applications for the newly-created position of Coordinator of
Affiliated Hospital Services. This is a unique and exciting opportunity to
create a new structure for the provision of library and information
services to four hospitals affiliated with the UPMC Health System.  The
scope of the position could grow to include design and supervision of
services to additional hospitals, clinics, and physician practices.  This
position will enable the enterprising librarian with hospital or clinical
experience to apply their skills in an academic setting using cutting-edge
technology.  Position reports to Associate Director for Administrative
Services.  Major responsibilities are to provide leadership in the
development, implementation and administration of HSLS outreach services,
including educational programming, reference assistance, specialized
presentations, publicity, and marketing.

The HSLS consists of the Falk Library of the Health Sciences, the Western
Psychiatric Institute and Clinic Library, the Nursing School Library, and
the Bergman Library/Reading Room.  HSLS serves six schools (Medicine,
Dental Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, Health and Rehabilitation Sciences,
and Public Health), and the hospitals and other units of the UPMC Health
System.  Library systems include OVID, NOTIS, and other full-text and
bibliographic resources.  HSLS staff includes 20 professionals and 34
support staff.  Professional growth is supported and strongly encouraged.

Qualifications:  The applicant must have an ALA-accredited MLS degree, and
demonstrated reference experience using MEDLINE, other biomedical
resources and the Internet. At least two years experience in a health
sciences library or clinical setting is strongly preferred. Evidence of
outstanding interpersonal and communication skills and continued
professional growth must be presented, as well as experience in the
application of technology for the provision of information services.
Applicant must be creative, energetic, team-oriented, flexible, and able
to work both independently and collaboratively in a complex, rapidly
changing environment.  Preferred are experience in program management, and
developing and teaching classes and workshops to adult learners.

Because some daytime travel will be required, the Coordinator of
Affiliated Hospital Services must maintain a current Pennsylvania drivers
license, and a vehicle insured in Pennsylvania.

Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications, negotiable from
$37,000.  Position is a full-time, non-tenured, faculty librarian
