LEARN HOW THE NEW COPYRIGHT LAWS ARE IMPACTING LIBRARIES AND USERS

Passage of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) and the
Sonny Bono Copyright Term Extension Act IN 1998 have created
new responsibilities for libraries and users.

MLA’s 1999 Legislative Update will address the basics of what
librarians need to know about these new changes in the copyright
law.

Mickey A. Voges, who is the featured speaker on these issues,
is Director of the Information Center and Associate Professor
of Law at Chicago-Kent College of Law at the Illinois Institute
of Technology. Mickey is a popular speaker on copyright issues,
and recently spoke at the Midwest Chapter Meeting of MLA.

Dale Dirks, MLA’s Washington Representative on Capitol Hill
will address NIH funding issues and the current political
climate on the Hill. Congressman John Porter (R-IL) has also
been invited to speak. It is anticipated that a staff member
from his office may speak on his behalf.

Plan to attend this timely and crucial program on Tuesday,
May 18, from 2:30 - 4:00 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom.
