Subject: Important teach-in June 30

Seniors in Massachusetts are choosing beteween food, heat, and essential drugs... because prescription drug prices are so high.

30 million sub-Saharan Africans will die of AIDS by the year 2010... because they can't afford anti-AIDS drugs.

And behind it are global drug companies that
-mark up drugs 30 times the cost of making them in India and China,
-claim they need the huge markup to pay their research and development costs, but
-don't do their own research. (We do, through NIH and public contracts to universities. Then the federal government sells them 20-year monopoly patents for a few hundred thousand dollars.)

Free market? Anything but. It's sheer government-corporate collusion to keep the profits private and externalize the costs (including tens of millions of deaths). It is also a stunning example of the real global economy.

And that's why United for a Fair Economy is cosponsoring a teach-in Wednesday, June 30 along with an extraordinary coalition of seniors, HIV+ organizations, people who care about Africa...

Here's the announcement. Please come, and spread the word!
