POST - DOCTORAL POSITION IN METAMORPHIC PETROLOGY/GEOCHRONOLOGY

A two years post - Doctoral fellowship is available to work on the project " The petrology and mineralization of the Yubdo - Daleti - Tulu Dimtu mafic-ultramafic rocks and the surrounding basement in  Western Ethiopia" funded by the Austrian Science Foundation.
The objectives of the project in Western Ethiopia are 1) The study of the petrology, structure and geochronology of the basement and enclosed mafic-ultramafic rocks,  and 2) a detailed study of the ultramafic rocks of the Yubdo, Daleti and Tulu Dimtu areas and their platiunum mineralization. The Post -Doc candidate will deal with objective No.1.
The project will involve mapping and sampling in the project area in cooperation with colleagues from the University of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Analytical work will include standard petrographic methods, electronmicroprobe, scanning electron microscope, etc. The geochronological studies will be conducted at the University of Witwatersrand, S. Africa in cooperation with Dr. J. Kruger (The Post-Doc candidate will have a chance to travel to S. Africa and make the analyses at Dr. Krugers Lab.)
The candidate will work at the Institute of Mineralogy-Crystallography and Petrology at Karl-Franzens University of Graz. Graz is the second largest city in Austria with a population of about 260,000 out of which 40.000 are students.
Candidates with a background in metamorphic petrology, geochemistry and geochronology are encouraged to apply. A Ph.D degree and a very good knowledge of the English language (reading and writing) are necessary. The position should be filled by January 1, 2000. The monthly Salary (after tax) will be about 18.700 Ats (1440 US$ or 1359 Euro).
