The mass of the cable on both sides, as well as the carriers, does somewhat counterbalance the lift -- but if you add about 600 pounds per carrier in passengers times the number of carriers on the uphill line, the weight adds up. --- end of quote --- Second what Skip wrote- We had a big time snafu in the 60's on the old Killington Snowdon double with a gear failure that resulted in high speed lift acceleration in reverse.......about 20 skiers were injured mainlyfrom jumping from chairs to avoid lower bullwheel entanglements as the chairs swung out going around the lower wheel....if anyone is interested, the present Killington constable Howard Zack was patrolling that day and was one of the injured jumpers. He could relate the gory details. Hugh H - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - SkiVt-L is brought to you by the University of Vermont.
