The interactive boards in use here are in Math classrooms and those are
still SMART boards with integrated Windows CPU. Our teachers have used
Notebook for years so this has been a software choice thus far. Knowing
that we may be able to run Notebook content on other boards in future we
may consider other options in the next round... [...]

Like some others, we use the Newline interactive displays plus the
integrated Windows PC. This is our 3rd year with them, and the results are
strong. The integrated Windows PC is vital for some teachers, and worthless
to others. The TV itself has a built-in Google browser that works very
well. Personally, I'd like to move away from Windows, but I can't just yet.
The online management software is quite strong, but has its quirks (like
anything). Teachers like the displays, but several have mentioned that they
miss their projectors. [...]

I just got a Fwd from the Director of Special Ed with the EHR survey. I
put that we were not compatible as we don't give anything except
Chromebooks to our staff.

Considering they go "here is a fully web based program" yet when listing
the requirements they don't include Chromebooks as a compatible device, I
am a little worried about the selection process the state used. [...]

We received an email yesterday from AHS that had short surveys for the
Business Manager and the Technology Director to fill out. It mentioned
those specs you sent, and that was the biggest question I was left with,
since a large portion of our staff use Chromebooks.

We are switching to NewLine Interactive Displays. Our highschool classrooms
were the first to receive these displays. They come with an MDM for
management and have a 10-year warranty.

We are using NewLine and purchase them mostly from Red8. We buy the
stands too.

Bytespeed has a new brand that came in pretty const effective, but we were
already pretty dedicated to NewLine to switch.

Good morning all,

I've been asked to look into a "gamification" of positive behavior. This
isn't the role of an IT director, other than checking privacy policies. Is
anyone else using a product to award points to students for attendance
streaks and behavioral data? We use PowerSchool and Branching Minds (MTSS),
so if either one has an extension for this, I am all ears.

fabulous folks at CVCOA (Central Vermont Council On Aging). After finding
myself needing a job at the end of the year, and not wanting to start again
at the bottom of the employment structure, I decided to seek employment
(and find a new career path?) outside of Ed Tech. With possible/mandated
District restructuring, being the "last hired" didn't have a great appeal
to me. [...]

We're looking at a Synology storage array to back up our Google Drive and
some limited Windows storage. I just got an updated quote and the price
jumped over $3000 in just over a month. The 3 - 32GB memory modules account
for $2100 of that increase. Just something to keep in mind with these kinds

Yep, that is exactly what it allows. When at school, they only connect to
school managed wifi. When home (elsewhere) they can connect to
anything...they are only disabled to connect to managed wifi when the
managed wifi is available...

I have used the wifi settings to not allow the devices to connect to
anything other than the managed wifi when that is available....makes it so
they can not connect to hotspots, public...etc...

Figured it out, it is on the actual wifi network we pursh. However, Kids
were jumping onto the guest network, then changing their DNS server to get
by things. So now we have to find a way to block the guest network from
the kids chromebooks completely.

fewer tabs open at any given time, but that fell on deaf ears. Definitely
more expensive, but I'm getting a lot more strict about billing parents for

My understanding was that there will be a state funded electronic health
record system to be rolled out starting in October. This system is for
school based Medicaid funding but I believe it will do everything we
currently do in Snap. Schools will be required to use it so I don't think
it would make sense to continue to pay for a second ehr system. Here is a

We have been phasing out 4GB student Chromebooks for a few years now. We
have been phasing them out slowly based on pricing; fourth graders receive
new 8GB models each year along with 9th graders. Students in grades K-3
still receive 4GB models, but they are touchscreens. Teachers are also
getting 16GB Chromebook Plus models. [...]

We felt that there was only benefits to having more so we decided a little
over a year ago to start upgrading and swapping out older 4GB Chromebooks.
I just bought the last 60 we needed to upgrade all our students to 8GB but
the cost was definitely higher than when we initially started the process.
I think this last batch was over a $100 more than the first batch. [...]

December 2024 with their hosting support team that even included a few

We've recently discovered that Securly is labeling LGBTQ+ sites as
"pornography," not as sexual content within the scope of health in some
cases. It blocks all these resources outright. We're curious if anyone else
has encountered this, and if so, what you may have done to fix this issue.

We are waiting to hear more (from ProMed & other users) about the next
release - SNAP Health Center V5, hoping it offers improvements over the
current SNAP Cloud product. Our experience with the self-hosted version
of SNAP was excellent.

Yesterday I received an email from a person praising a story I had written.
They discussed the story in detail, making it clear they had *read* it.
They wanted to adapt it for a video. It was impressive how specific and
personal it was, this was clearly not a generic email blast, it was
carefully crafted to appeal to me and no one else.
Fortunately I am inherently suspicious, and a quick Google search showed
the author's name went with a different picture, and the picture went with

Generally speaking it is not permitted to charge employees for lost/damaged
equipment, if that is what you are asking. Equipment needed to do the job
is considered a business expense. State rules may vary, but generally you
would have to be able to prove that the employee willfully damaged the
equipment, or if they themselves stole the equipment. [...]

We use Verkada for cameras, door locks, and guest login. We can set up
alerts if needed.

We are integrating one of our schools into the Verkada ecosystem. This
will integrate our locks and cameras, and from my understanding you can set
alerts as well.

From what I understand alertus will integrate with our existing camera and
alarm systems as well as our VOIP phones.

From our side, I'm not sure we need to look at a new system as much as
begin to utilize the system that we currently have efficiently and
appropriately. Since it was installed a few years ago, we've never really
set up and utilized Alertus to its full potential. [...]
