Hi !
This is Steve. I'm one of the organizers of this list - EDSS stands for
the departmental affiliation - Education and Social Services; - 295 stands
for the course number, at the University of Vermont (UVM = Universitatis
Viridis Montis) 295 courses are seminar / special topics courses.
The EDSS-295 "list" was set up to support a course titled
"Telecommunications for Educators."
There are a number of subscribers, but, as you observe, most are either
asleep or ... as is probably the case ... lurking.
E-mail "classes" are a lot like real "classes" - at least in the US. The
students come into the room, sit as FAR AWAY from the front of the room as
possible, and try their hardest to be invisible - woe! that the teacher
should call on them to recite. (I think this is sort of feline behavior;
as obvious as a cat often is, it like to think it's invisible.)
At the beginning of the semester, I invited folks to introduce themselves,
and then suggested two activities to explore -- one was an open house at
an online university called Diversity University, the other was an event
called "Global Learn Day."
At UVM, we're wrapping up our semester. Today is the first day of exam
period - and in 2 hours I'm taking the oral part of my Japanese 001 exam
;)

Anyway, one way to get the ball rolling is for people to introduce
themselves - so they can see who's here and where folks are coming from -
and perhaps state the 1 or 2 things they would like to learn most about
"Telecommunications and Education."
Steve
