Hey- Sorry to bombard with info, I'm just finally checking email and I
felt this was important as we are a "womens" group. -Elyse
Hello all,
For the past four years UVM has enjoyed a strong peer education theater
program that focuses on date rape education. The interactive play, called
"When A Kiss is Not Just A Kiss" has been performed for over 10,000 UVM
students and other colleges.
I am pleased to ask you to help pass the word along to colleagues and
mainly to STUDENTS that we are now looking to recruit students for "When A
Kiss.." as well as a whole new peer education theater project that is being
developed through the Department of Justice Grants of the Women's Center.
The new project has yet to be named officially as we'd like the students to
name it, however for now it's called "Justice Theater"
We need a handful of students to get involved with either (or both )
productions. Please pass this along to ANYONE who might be interested.
Acting expereince is not required. A desire to be a leader in ending
violence is especially helpful!
Further descriptions follow:
JUSTICE THEATER:
New! Topic is gender violence prevention with a focus more on larger
cultural issues that support violence agaisnt women, and a "mock trial" of
a man accused of rape. Time commitment is about two hours a week during the
spring semester including a full day retreat / training on JAnuary 11.
(Friday before classes start). Student actors will be given a lot of
opportunity to shape dialogue and build this new program. Small stipends
are available.
WHEN A KISS IS NOT JUST A KISS
The focus is on preventing date rape and looks at the role of alcohol in a
double- date party situation. Script is based on improvisation, however it
is well estabished and easier to learn. Time committment is a little less
than JUSTICE Theater with a large focus on rehearsals and trainings in
late AUGUST as well as a small amount of time in the spring semester. Our
performances focus around school opening. Small stipends MIGHT be
available. (We're working on this....)
