The following are a press release and agenda for the Upper Valley Trails
Alliance's free workshop this Saturday at Kimball Union Academy in Meriden,
NH. Meriden is just south of Lebanon, NH off I-89. Please RSVP ASAP and
let us know if you will stay for dinner ($5-7). We will explore different
types of trail agreements for dealing with private lands--unlike many of the
larger transportation enhancement projects, we are dealing with many trails
and paths on private lands. We hope you will come and participate!

Protecting & Managing Trails:
Landowners & Trails Groups Working Together
White River Junction-The Upper Valley Trails Alliance and Plainfield
Trailblazers are hosting a workshop for landowners, trails groups,
conservation organizations and those interested in trails on Saturday March
25, 2000 at Kimball Union Academy in Meriden, NH from 2:30-5:30. An
inexpensive networking dinner will follow the workshop, provided by Kimball
Union Academy.

A panel will discuss various types of trail agreements and how these work to
protect the interests of landowners and trail users. Small group
discussions will provide landowners, trails groups and conservation
organizations a chance to share their experiences with trails and trail
agreements. We will also exchange ideas on promoting and managing trails
sustainably without over use, multi-use conflicts or landowner concerns.
Legal issues, such as liability and tax incentives, will also be explored.

The Upper Valley Trails Alliance is a coalition of trail and land protection
organizations, civic groups, and landowners, which support multi-modal
trails and the creation of a cohesive trail network in the Upper Valley
region. The alliance began in February 1999 and continues to grow,
offering technical support and increased communications to those interested
in trails. For more information and volunteer opportunities, please contact
them at UVTA, 104 Railroad Row, White River Junction, VT 05001.

Pre-registration is requested. Please call the Upper Valley Trails Alliance
at 802-291-9100 x 4 or e-mail [log in to unmask]
