This really, really is fascinating. Was the door the standard width of a
school bus or wider? I guess without the front seat on a traditional bus you
could stand behind your handlebars and walk with your bike into the space,
turning before you got to the bus driver. So people then stand beside their
bicycles and don't fasten them down in some fashion? Are there any
passengers who don't have bikes? If so, do they just stand beside the bikes?
Are there flip down seats on the sides as in the old taxis on the back side
of the driver's seat? Could you easily reach the overhead grab bar and also
hold your bike? Besides the overhead grab bars, were there side grab bars or
stanchions in the middle of the floor. Bikes roll and without being able to
grab onto anything, I could see it might be hard to control the bicycle and
keep your footing. Of course, having the bike might also increase your
balance. In October, I rode on the old streetcars in San Francisco that came
over from Milan. They are even more rough riding than the sweet PCC
streetcars that tend to throw you around more than buses.
I need more description. Sorry, but this really is interesting. Did
you take any pictures of these buses and of the inside? I know I won't
immediately get a trip to Cuba.
