WED NOV 28 @ 7pm Shelburne Town Center
MON DEC 6 @ 7pm Colchester Meeting House
The Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission has recently released the
draft of the Lake Champlain Byways Corridor Management Plan for Chittenden
County. The proposed Lake Champlain Byways corridor is an interconnected
travel network containing four transportation modes that encircle Lake
Champlain. Bicycle paths, waterway routes, walking tours, and roadways will
offer visitors and residents transportation options when traveling in the
Designation as a Vermont Scenic Byway will enable the proposed corridor
communities - Milton, Colchester, Essex Junction, Winooski, Burlington,
South Burlington, Shelburne, and Charlotte - to apply for federal funding
from the National Scenic Byways program. Federal funds can go to improve
roads, construct visitor and interpretive facilities, implement marketing
strategies, design web sites, and build trails, sidewalks, and bike paths.
Chittenden County's corridor communities have reviewed the corridor
management plan. The Regional Planning Commission is now seeking input from
the public. The Commission will host a public workshop on November 28, 2001
at 7:00 p.m. at the Shelburne Town Center. Representatives from the
Commission and the Vermont Agency of Transportation will be on hand to
answer questions and take comments. The comments will be compiled, analyzed
and the plan changed accordingly in December. In January, the plan will be
presented to the Vermont Scenery Preservation Council for their
recommendation to the Vermont Transportation Board for designation.
Chittenden County's communities, if designated, will be eligible for
National Scenic Byways grants next year.
