Well, we have been waiting for two years for the next
roundabout, thanks to the private sector initiative (with Williston
Town cooperation and acceptance), the Maple Tree Roundabout
opened inside Maple Tree Place in Williston a few days ago.
Some mixed reviews from initial users, but a visit there
yesterday confims the new roundie meets all the criteria for a basic
roundabout that allows those destined to Williston Village from the
interstate or Marshall Ave. to cut through Maple Tree Ave. (?),
through the roundabout onto US 2 with a right turn towards the
village--and avoid three signalized intersections including Taft
Corner. Am sure the local residents will find out the value of the
diversion route quickly--and this is the first portion of the planned
"loop" road around Taft Corner that promises to move traffic in a
smooth, uninterrupted fashion.
Yes there are some finishing touches needed, maybe some
further twearking of the geometrics, but for the typical sedan or
SUV, the sailing is free and easy.
Meanwhile, stopped to view the dangerous Charlotte US
7/Ferry Road intersection with Sgt. J.R. Winn (a resident) and
found a roundabout may well be the answer (first looked at this
intersection two years ago). Apparently in speaking to some local
citizens at the service station at the corner, several Charlotte
citizens are known to favor a roundabout, including our Dr. Bunky
B. There is to be a local meeting to discuss the intersection and
left some materials with Sgt. Winn--including the new Missouri
DOT video--that he will offer for consideration by local officials.
Also in roundabout news this week, made a presentation to the
Killington Planning Board and viewed what looks like an excellent
site, US 4 and the Killington Access Road intersection. Primary
interest in this site would be cutting down congestion and providing
a focal point for the Killington business corridor.
