Vermont SAFE KIDS Coalition and Vermont Bicycle and Pedestrian Coalition
have teamed up to hold the 8th annual Heart of Vermont Metric Century Ride
on Sunday, September 11, 2004. This 62 mile ride will begin and end at the
Montpelier Recreation Field and traverses a scenic route through Waterbury,
Stowe, Morrisville, Elmore and Worcester.
A 20 mile ride option will also be offered. The ride is a joint fundraiser
for both organizations, who often work together on bicycle and pedestrian
safety efforts statewide.
Participants who raise a minimum of $100 and become members of the Vermont
Bicycle and Pedestrian Coalition will receive an entry for the drawing of a
Trek 5200 carbon fiber road bike. The drawing will be held during the
cookout following the ride.
Registration forms for the ride and VT Bike/Ped membership may be found at
The National SAFE KIDS Campaign, of which the Vermont Coalition is a member,
is the first and only national non-profit organization dedicated solely to
the prevention of unintentional childhood injury - the number one killer of
children ages 14 and under. Funds raised from the bike ride are used
directly to fund community mini-grants around Vermont that support local
injury prevention efforts.
The Vermont Bicycle and Pedestrian Coalition's mission is to promote
bicycling and walking in Vermont, emphasizing access, safety, and education.
