Climate List...
Attached is a little press release that we have just issued concerning
the big hailstorm back on July 16th that struck northern Chittenden
County, especially Westford.
Turns out that one hailstone that coincidentally fell at one of our
employees house set the Vermont record for the largest documented
hailstone. It took a few weeks to go through a formal process to fact
check and pull a little group together to verify the measurements...thus
the press release finally happening today.
We have also put a comprehensive writeup of the events of July 16th on
our webpage. This covers not only the hail storm, but the Orange County
tornado as well. Many thanks to Brooke Taber, one of the forecasters
here, for doing the excellent job of going deep into the science and
radar analysis of the day.
That webpage is: http://weather.gov/btv/events/16Jul2009/
We've also uploaded higher resolution version pictures of the hailstone
at: http://weather.gov/btv/photos
Lastly, the employee who was able to capture the big hailstone also put
together a nice little summary, including a number of pictures he
obtained from neighbors around town, on his personal webpage:
