I wanted to let you know about the upcoming flood resiliency conference
being organized by the Lake Champlain Basin Program on 4-5 June.
I am coordinating a session called Building human and natural
resiliency to flooding (and related hazards) in a changing climate. It
brings together perspectives from colleagues in the National Weather
Service, VTrans and FEMA.

Registration is now open for the Lake Champlain Basin Program 2012 Flood
Resilience Conference, to be held June 4-5 at
the Davis Center at the University of Vermont. The conference is open to
anyone who would like to participate. On-line
registration is free until May 30. On-site registration will be $15/day.

Conference topics will include:
Monday, June 4th (daytime sessions): Technical sessions reviewing rivers &
floodplains from federal, state, and municipal
perspectives; lakeshore protection, climate change, flood vulnerability
mapping, and more.
Monday, June 4th (evening session): Presentations for public audiences
focusing on river and floodplain function,
shoreline protection, climate change, a case study of the Ausable River
during Tropical Storm Irene, an introduction from
the International Joint Commission, and an opportunity for participant
engagement and discussion of these issues.
Tuesday, June 5th: Policy sessions reviewing national flood policies,
river, lakeshore and floodplain management policies
in the Lake Champlain basin, and participant engagement and discussion of
these policies.
