Tim,

I would like to redirect this question to Deb Armitage and Al Bianchi the
math assessment specialists at the Department of Education.

Jim:

I need help interpreting the intention of the standards and evidence
statements. Should the evidence statements be used as a definition of
the "universe" for that particular standard?. For example, does
evidence a - f and bb - g define the 5-8 universe for standard
7.10 Problem Solving and Reasoning ? Or, are they just somewhat
arbitrary pieces of sample evidence? Could teachers make up their own
pieces of evidence? Are the various assessment materials written with
these specific evidence statements in mind? Thanks, Tim
