Vermont Bicycle & Pedestrian Coalition
 Montpelier, VT

Job Opening: "Education & Outreach Coordinator"

The Vermont Bicycle & Pedestrian Coalition, the statewide voice for better
bicycling & walking in Vermont, is seeking a part-time Education & Outreach

The Education & Outreach Coordinator will orchestrate and assist in the
bicycle safety education programs of the Coalition (particularly the
elementary school BikeSmart program), including workshop logistics and
volunteer coordination. The Coordinator will be trained as a BikeSmart
instructor, and will fill in gaps where we don't have a local instructor.
The Coordinator will additionally have some outreach duties for the
Coalition, such as working with the membership database and setting up a
Coalition presence at summer events. The position is mostly administrative
in nature, with some opportunity to function as an educator. The Coordinator
will preferably be an avid bicyclist & walker, as an individual.

The Coordinator position is a newly-created, part-time, seasonal job for the
busy spring & early summer season of bicycle safety education. Extension to
a permanent and/or full-time position may become possible, but is by no
means guaranteed. Although our funding does not currently permit us to
promise a permanent position, we do hope to find a candidate interested in
that possibility. If on-going employment seems likely, we will invest in
the knowledge/skills of the Coordinator, to include national bicycle safety
instructor certification (League Cycling Instructor - LCI) in Boston (April)
and the opportunity to attend the Bicycle Education Leaders Conference in
NYC (May). The Coordinator will report to our Executive Director, who is
currently a salaried employee at 30 hrs/wk.

Coordinator job responsibilities:
+ Coordinate BikeSmart in-school bicycle safety education program, including
volunteer management.
+ Coordinate other bicycle safety instructor trainings, including logistics
of location, food, trainers, etc.
+ Assist with membership development and database.
+ Other related duties TBD.

Desired skills & knowledge:
+ Strong bicycle handling skills, preferably with a basic knowledge of safe
road bicycling skills.
+ Ability to coordinate logistics of trainings including site reservations,
food, instructors, student registration, and materials/binders.
+ Knowledge & understanding of elementary school system, and how to interact
with teachers & principals.
+ Computer-savy including: word processing, spreadsheet, email/Internet.
Comfortable with Macintosh OS X or willing to become comfortable. Knowledge
of simple web-page development a plus.
+ Professional in presentation and phone manner.
+ Enthusiastic about the work & mission of the Coalition.
+ Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

+ 5-month seasonal contract (late February/early March through July),
part-time position, approx. 15-16 hrs/wk.
+ Hourly rate, approximately $12 per hour, based on qualifications.
+ Office in Montpelier, VT; some work can be from home, but the person
should live in Vermont, and be willing to spend at least part of one day a
week in Montpelier. Some weekend work may be required.
