Tuesday Evening Storm Update....
...The North Country will be impacted by a significant winter storm...
...Heavy Snow Warning remains in effect from 1AM Wednesday until
7 AM Thursday...
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Burlington VT continues the Heavy
Snow Warning for Vermont and northern New York. Snow will overspread
our area late tonight...and become heavy Wednesday into Wednesday
night. Total snow accumulations from the storm by Thursday morning will
be as follows...
***8 to 16 inches in the St Lawrence Valley of New York
***12 to 24 inches across Rutland...Windsor and Orange counties of
*** 16 to
26 inches elsewhere across the Adirondacks and Champlain valley of
Vermont and New York and across the remainder of central and northern
Vermont...with some locally higher amounts in the mountains.
Along with the heavy snow...north or northwest winds
will be increasing Wednesday afternoon and night resulting in blowing
and drifting snow. This will result in near blizzard or
whiteout conditions at times. If outside...it's easy to become
disoriented. Combined with the cold weather...this will be a life
threatening storm situation if extreme caution is not used.
Advanced planning is critical when preparing for storms of this nature.
Planning involves snow removal...helping our neighbors...the safe use
of power generators...and the avoidance of unnecessary travel. During
Wednesday...travel will become increasingly difficult and dangerous
with these conditions continuing into Thursday morning. There
may be disruptions in power.
An area of developing low pressure over the Tennessee and Ohio River
Valleys late Tuesday will track northeast and reorganize along the
North Carolina and Virginia coastlines early Wednesday. This storm will
intensify and move to near Cape Cod late Wednesday and Wednesday night.
