MEDIA ADVISORY — TELECONFERENCE: WHAT ARE THE WEATHER-RELATED IMPLICATIONS OF RECORD-LOW ARCTIC SEA ICE LEVELS FOR NORTH AMERICA?

WHAT: The amount of sea ice in the Arctic has just fallen to the lowest level ever recorded, demonstrating the major impact that greenhouse gas pollution is having on the region. The impacts and implications of rising temperatures and melting ice in the Arctic — often referred to as Earth’s natural air conditioner — extend beyond just the Arctic itself. Impacts might be felt in North America, where scientists predict we will see an increase in extreme weather due to the unprecedented ice loss. A panel of scientists will convene to answer your questions about how climate change is altering Arctic sea ice and threatening to bring weather-related impacts and more to the U.S.
