One other thought. The guardrail we put in--w-beam--is an atrocious assault
on the scenic character of Vermont--miles and miles of new horizontal trash-
can metal that creates a large ugly screen between vehicle occupants and the
landscape (the interstate is the most ugly example). The Adirondack Park uses
narrow box beam guardrail with the same protective rating as w-beam, though
slightly more expensive. And, yes, the guardrail is an aesthetic assault on
bicyclists and pedestrians too!
